Therapy for Self-Esteem & Self-Confidence
Stop the second-guessing and step into your strength.
You’ve checked a lot of the “boxes” in life.
From the outside looking in, it might look like you’ve got it all figured out. You’re known for being reliable and doing good work, and the people in your life tell you that: your boss thanks you for your hard work, your friends or partner tell you what a great job you’re doing.
But while you understand the words they’re saying—and you see the success around you—it’s like you can’t truly hear them. You reject the compliments, downplay the praise, and continue to wrestle with the sense of self-doubt that you can’t seem to shake.
When you take a moment to be honest with yourself, you actually feel...
Anxious or stressed at work, like maybe you’re not really qualified enough
Burnt out and struggling with work-life balance
Unable to trust yourself, constantly second-guessing how you look, feel, or respond to things
Overly concerned with what others think of you
You’re ready to get out of your own way.
Let’s start rewriting the stories you tell yourself.
Each of us has an “inner voice,” a combination of our conscious thoughts and the more deeply ingrained beliefs or biases that we may not even realize are there. In therapy, we’ll examine that voice and what’s influencing it.
Why is it so difficult to accept praise and actually believe it’s true? What has society told you about how you should think, feel, or look? When do you feel proud of yourself?
Imagine a life where self-doubt doesn’t rule your every decision.
Therapy is an opportunity to learn (and unlearn) what’s standing in your way. Through mindfulness, shifts in thought & belief patterns, and a supportive space to process what you’re experiencing, you can begin to see yourself differently.
You’ll learn how to recognize your inner strengths. You’ll become confident asking for what you want or need (and saying “no” to what you don’t). And you’ll have the tools & practices to take back control of the messages you tell yourself. You’ll be the one writing the story.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Absolutely. Some of my clients describe what they’re experiencing as “low self-esteem,” but many don’t. You might be someone who is actually very aware of your strengths and what you have to offer, which is why this sense of self-doubt or uncertainty feels so frustrating.
While it can be helpful to put a “name” to what you’re experiencing, therapy is mostly about helping you untangle the underlying thoughts, beliefs, or experiences that are influencing how you feel today and to bring that back into alignment with what you actually know to be true about yourself.

Each of us has an inner monologue of thoughts and beliefs that color how we view ourselves and the world around us. This is “self-talk.” When the themes of that monologue are negative—full of criticism, unrealistic expectations, or doubt—it can impact just about every aspect of your life. In therapy, we’ll examine your self-talk and what’s helped shape it, as well as what needs to happen for it to be come more confident, positive, and empowering.

There’s a difference between confidence and having a “big ego.” Confidence means you know who you are and feel secure in your inherent worth and value as a person. Thinking too highly of yourself, often called having a “big ego” or something similar, means viewing yourself as more important or better than those around you. Counseling is about helping you reinstate a sense of confidence and empowerment in who you are, while maintaining the sense of humility & integrity that you already appreciate in yourself.
